On Life
January 25th, 2010 by Josh
I haven’t posted for awhile. And I’m bored, so I figured I’d throw up an update on my life for anyone who still tunes in here.
I had a fun but somewhat sad Christmas. Due to Mother Nature’s shenanigans I decided against going up to Wisconsin like I usually do. A couple years ago I drove up in a blizzard and it was terrifying! So instead of seeing my family, I went out for Peking Duck with a bunch of people from Yelp. It was really good, and a lot of fun! I imagine all the wine didn’t hurt either! After that we went out and drank more. Because what can go wrong when you drink a lot? Nothing!
Fast-forward to New Years, and another awesome time. I went to a party hosted by a Yelp-friend and it was a blast! The beer and the jello shots were flowing freely. Perhaps a little too freely, based on the killer headache I had the next morning. Or afternoon, whenever it was I finally got up. But I played flippy cup for the first time, and from what I remember I was pretty good at it! Maybe I can play professionally?
I recently (as in last night) returned from a long weekend in San Diego. As it turned out, getting there was quite an adventure…
As we were making our final bumpy approach into San Diego we were maybe at a few hundred feet and the plane started to wobble side to side pretty badly. We started to pull up and the engines went to full throttle like a take-off. We climbed for awhile and then the pilot came on to say that they got a wind shear alert on approach and that we’d be landing in LA. And that was it. The guy behind me was listening to ATC and said the pilot had to pull up due to wind shear. The tower asked the pilot if he wanted to go around and try again and he declined and decided to go to LA. Between you and me, I suspect he might have peed his pants on the first run and was afraid to try again. Not sure I can blame him, but it was damn inconvenient!
They didn’t have any other information for us until we got to a gate at LAX (which took awhile since we weren’t supposed to be there). They then said there would be buses to take us to San Diego. The buses took 45 minutes or so to get there, and the trip down to SD was about 2 hours, or a bit less. It was scenic at least. So I got to SD 4.5 hours late, and on a bus.
I saw some neat stuff when I was there, including the Midway Museum and the San Diego Zoo. I highly recommend both places! They are totally worth the time and money.
The flight home was less exciting, and more timely. And we landed in the right city, so that’s a plus!
I don’t want this to get too long-winded, so that’s all for now. More to come when I remember.
